Obituary for Carol Jean Yehle (Gilbert)

Carol J. Yehle of Concord, NC died peacefully with family by her side on 17 April 2023. She was born in Milwaukee, WI to the late Harry W. and Ruth C. (Peterson) Gilbert. She married Dale G. Yehle in April 1964 and was blessed with three children: Cheryl, David and Diane.

Carol was a dedicated mother first and foremost. She treasured her children and especially loved her role as memaw to her grandchildren. She was a gentle, loving, kind, friendly person and would stop to chat with anyone she met. When her children got older, she worked in tax preparation, book-keeping and as a bank teller and in retirement became a certified Master Gardener, made quilts for charity and volunteered at the CVAN Thrift Store in Concord and at the Cabarrus County fair.

From the time she was a child, she was obsessed with horses and one of her early jobs was at a riding stable, where she met her husband-to-be in 1963. When the family moved to North Carolina, she was finally able to have her own horses, which she absolutely relished.

Carol was also passionate about playing bridge and enjoyed weekly games with the same group of friends for over 40 years. She always had a huge vegetable garden and when it became too much for her, she converted some of her flower gardens to vegetables so she could continue growing some of her own food. Of course, she also loved watching the birds (especially hummingbirds) and butterflies that flocked to her gardens!

She was an avid quilter and enjoyed reading and genealogy in her spare time. She also baked the best Christmas cookies!

She will be sorely missed and is survived by her children: David Yehle (Tracy) and Diane Yehle-Tresnak (Corey); grandchildren: Natalie Yehle and Scott Yehle; sister: Margaret Spitzer, brother-in-law: Ralph Yehle; and foster sister: Nancy Mansavage – as well as many nieces, nephews, friends and granddogs.

Carol was preceded in death by her loving husband Dale; eldest daughter Cheryl; siblings: Doris Becker, Harry Gilbert Jr, Jean Gilbert, Betty Conard, William Gilbert and Donald Gilbert; and brothers-in-law Bruce C. Yehle, Daniel Becker and Clarence Spitzer.

A private family service will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to CVAN (Cabarrus Victims Assistance Network) of Concord or to Hospice & Palliative Care Charlotte Region.
