Obituary for Sue Burgess
Mrs. Carolyn “Sue” Pressley Burgess, 81, of Kannapolis, passed away on Thursday, January 7, 2021 at her home, surrounded by her family.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm on, January 10, 2021 at Crosspointe Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Leon Hawks. The service will be able to be live streamed on Crosspointe Baptist Church Facebook page. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2:00-3:00 pm prior to the service at church.
Sue was born on September 20, 1939 in Concord to the late Reece and Rachel Thomas Pressley. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Roy “Boyce” Burgess, Sr; sisters, Jo Ellen Atwell (Ray), Dianne Christy (Don); brother, Craig W. Pressley.
Sue was a charter member of Sharon Baptist Church in her younger years and currently attended Crosspointe Baptist Church. Sue worked as a licensed beautician for many years at La Marick Beauty Salon and then worked at Cannon Mills in the Sheet and Sample Department.
Volunteering was one of her passions, serving at Cabarrus County Senior Center, Atrium Health-Cabarrus, and as the Girl Scouts Leader at Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church. In her free time, she enjoyed RVing and camping with her husband, Boyce, spending time with her family and grandchildren, attending ballgames, dance recitals, school and church programs.
She is survived by her daughter, Tammy Smith (Eric) of Concord; sons, Boyce Burgess, Jr.(Joy) of Gold Hill, Michael Burgess of Concord, Mark Burgess (Sarah) of Concord; grandchildren, Daniel Smith (Wendi), Mackenzie Burgess (Oliver Moncure), Hunter Burgess, Maddie Burgess; great-grandchildren, Peyton Smith and Jake Smith; sisters-in-law, Sue Pressley, Radie Clontz, Flora Mae Martin; special family friends, Josh and Amanda Legg, Jaeley, Aven and Kelby; numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Sue’s caregiver, Teresa Jones Almond.
