Obituary for Darrel Eugene Self
Mr. Darrel Eugene Self, 56, of Kannapolis, passed away on Tuesday, January 10, 2023 at Atrium Health Cabarrus, surrounded by his family.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 pm, on Saturday, January 14, 2023 at Memorial Baptist Church, Kannapolis, NC, officiated by Rev. Jason Barber, and Todd Thacker. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:30 prior to the service.
Darrel was born on October 11, 1966 in Concord, NC to Darrel Lynn Self and the late Helen Irvin Self. He is also preceded in death by his daughter, Madeline Self; and son, Joshua Self.
Darrel was a Research and Development Electronics Designer and Consultant and lover of all things electronics and how things worked in general. He designed many products in use today, and his schematics hang in many companies as artwork of their products. He absolutely loved what he did. Weightlifting was also a huge part of his life, especially in his younger years. He was a competitive power lifter, holding many NC records as well as a body builder. Animals, primarily cats, have always held a special place in his heart, from a young boy until his final days. He was a member of Memorial Baptist Church, and was a past volunteer at Caremoor Retirement Center reading and teaching the Bible to residents.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Angela Short Self; father, Darrel Lynn Self of Florida; daughter, Angela Brooke Irvin and husband, Philip of Concord; sons, Kendal Wellington Self of Concord, Caleb Addison Self of the home, and Jaxon Alexander Self of the home; a sister, Sharla Gattie and husband, Richard of Florida; brother, Cory W. Self and wife, Heidi, of Tennessee; twin granddaughters, Abby and Nora Irvin; Sister-in-law Judy Short Moose; Brother's-in-law Michael Short, and Dean Short, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces/nephews, and great-grandnieces/nephews.
