Obituary for Hazel Glenn

Hazel Wren Glenn, age 93, of Troy, Alabama, passed away Tuesday, January 5, 2021, following a brief illness.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, January 9, 2021, at 2 p.m. in West Concord Cemetery in Concord, North Carolina, with Wilkinson Funeral Home directing.

“Can’t never could.” Mrs. Hazel said it many a time and lived it daily. She was forward-looking and an inspired doer. A homemaker by trade, Mrs. Hazel was the superglue of her family, with the emphasis on super. She could knock you back with a single taste of her chocolate cake, call you home with the smell of her savory dressin’, and teach you life lessons over the making of her perfectly cubed potato salad. When special projects called, she was innovative and deviceful, crafting functional school assignments from cardboard and straws, sewing occasion dresses from her own sketches, and staying abreast and informed through google searches and email exchange. Mrs. Hazel was an explorer a frequented the coasts of Florida. She never missed the opportunity wander, though never lost, or to share the tales of her voyages with all she encountered. True to her generation, Mrs. Hazel was a gatherer, and founder of the repurposing movement. She saved everything and always seemed to find new life and use for all her treasures. Mrs. Hazel, unknowing, was the treasure. Her dynamic spirit lifted her surroundings, encouraged bystanders, and will long foster a quest for wisdom.

Mrs. Glenn is survived by her daughter, Tammy Turner (Jamie); grandchildren, Kayla Miller (James), Kortney Hollis (James), Robin Ferrell (Philip), Kim Baldwin, Gidget Hyde, Stacey Otero (Kevin), and John Glenn (Laura); great-grandchildren, Whitney Beshears (Steven), Justin Souza, Gracelyn Parks, Brooklyn Adams, Bryant Adams, Alexis Christo, Jaiden Perry, and Elizabeth Otero; and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of more than 60 years, James Willard Glenn; daughter, Beverly Randolph; sons, Cameron Glenn and David Glenn; and parents, Odell Limbaugh and Emma Howington Moore.

The family wishes to extend many thanks to the nurses and nursing assistants of Troy Health and Rehabilitation for their attentive care and continued compassion. Friends and family can sign the guestbook online at www.greenhillsfuneralhome.net. The staff of Green Hills Funeral Home is honored to serve the Glenn family.
