Obituary for Jerry Eugene Bennick
Mr. Jerry Eugene Bennick passed away at his home, Monday, April 24, 2023.
His funeral will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday at New Gilead Reformed Church officiated by Rev. Larry Bolick. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Wednesday at Wilkinson Funeral Home.
Jerry was born September 19, 1935 in Concord to the late Harry Bennick and Evie Cranfield Bennick. He was also preceded in death by daughter Donna Elaine Bennick, sister Kathleen Harris and brother William J. White. Jerry graduated from Hartsell High School, Class of 1954. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He was part of the “Wigwam” operation, the first underwater Atomic Explosion, and rose to the rank of Petty Officer 2nd Class. He ended his tour of duty in the fall of 1958. Jerry went on to work in the hosiery and textile industries, locally and regionally. He was an avid gardener of both flowers and vegetables. Jerry had a fighting spirit that endured to the end.
Jerry is survived by wife, Linda Suther Bennick; sister-in-law, Sarah White and other extended family members.
The family would like to thank Robin Long and Kim Luther from Mt. Pleasant Healthcare for the special love and care they showed Jerry during this time.
