Obituary for John Caldwell Sherrill Jr.
Mr. John Caldwell Sherrill, Jr., 82, of Concord, passed away on Tuesday, January 31, 2023 at SECU Hospice Center in Yadkinville NC, surrounded by his family.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm on Saturday, February 4, 2023 at Wilkinson Funeral Home Chapel, officiate by Rev. Kenny Gooden, with burial to follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2-3 prior to the service.
John was born on November 3, 1940 in Concord to the late Virginia Driggers Sherrill and John Caldwell Sherrill, Sr. He is also preceded in death by his wife, Jean Carol Freeze Sherrill; sister, Juanita Blackwelder; brother, Sonny Sherrill.
John had worked for the Cabarrus County Sherriff’s office for many years, obtaining the rank of Lieutenant Deputy. After retiring from the Sherriff’s office, he drove trucks for Redball, Cardinal, and Fun Tee’s. He loved fishing and riding horses. Some of John’s fondest memories are taking grandchildren on trips to Dollywood.
He is survived by his daughters, Debra Matthews and husband, Jeff of Boonville, NC, Tracy Sherrill and partner, Lori Kent of Hickory, NC; sister, Geraldine “Jerry” Furr and husband, Arnold of Concord; grandchildren, Piper Montgomery and friend, Lisa Burdette, Mac Hanson and wife, Karlie, Casey Mason and husband, Brandon, Morgan Matthews; great-grandchildren, Lenora Hanson and Messer Hanson; beloved dog, O’Malley “Scooter”.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ruth’s Memorial, Humane Society of Concord and Greater Cabarrus County, 2010 Wilshire Court SW, Concord, NC 28025.
