Obituary for Johnny Curtis

Mr. Johnny Oscar Curtis, age 74 of Salisbury, passed away peacefully at Glenn Kiser Hospice House on Friday, January 15, 2021.

The family will receive friends from 11 am to 1 pm Friday, January 22 at Wilkinson Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow in the chapel at 1 pm with Pastors David Wilson and Michael Austin officiating. Burial with military honors will be held at West Concord Cemetery.

Johnny was born April 23, 1946 in Burke County, a son of the late John Isaac Curtis and Della Hampton Curtis. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Rita Henry Curtis and a brother, Steve Curtis.

Johnny proudly served our country in the US Navy and retired from the US Army, having served in Vietnam. After his career in the military, he worked and retired from the US Postal Service. He loved to fish and play cards, was an avid reader, and enjoyed collecting eagles. Johnny attended Immanuel Baptist Church. He was a very special man, who loved spending time with his family, and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Penny Austin Curtis; son, Kendall Curtis, of the home; daughter, Della Curtis Shore and husband, Kevin of Linwood, NC; step-daughter, Kristina Jancic and husband, Jared of Cleveland, NC; step-son, Ricky Moore, Jr. and wife, Stephanie of Salisbury; grandchildren, Lauren Cecil, Brandon, Matthew and Holden Shore, and Luna Moore; sisters, Hope Nelson and husband, Donnie, Ruth Harshbarger and husband, Kevin, and Tammy Curtis; step-sisters, Polly Ledford and Susie Rogers; brothers, Stanley Curtis and wife, Donna and Joe Curtis and wife, Lori; numerous nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives and friends.
