Obituary for Joyce Ruth Stowell (Beaman)

Mrs. Joyce Ruth Beaman Stowell, 89, passed away on Monday, March 1, 2021 at her home, surrounded by her family.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday October 2, 2021 at 1:00 pm at The First Congregational Church of Leverett in Massachusetts, with burial to follow at The Plainview Cemetery. There will be a reception following at the Town Hall of Leverett.

Joyce was born on October 1, 1931 to the late Lawrence and Ruth Waterman Beaman. She is preceded in death by her husband, Milford D. Stowell.

She grew up in Leverett, Mass and later in Burlington, Vermont, graduating from Burlington High School in 1949. She attended Eastman School of Dental Hygiene in Rochester, NY and practiced for many years as a dental hygienist. Most of her adult life she lived in Leverett in a log home that she and her family built in the 1970s. She moved to Concord, NC in 2015 to be near her family. Joyce stayed active in her beloved church, First Congregational Church of Leverett, watching Zoom services as much as possible.

She enjoyed volunteering, especially at the local food bank and hospital. Her generosity and gratitude were evident to all who knew her. She always looked forward to spending time with her family and friends. She loved to read, listen to music, especially the Boston Pops, tend to her flowers and plants, and birdwatch.

She is survived by her sons, Dr. James Scheer and wife, Dara of Concord, NC, John Scheer and wife, Sue of Williston, VT, Jeffrey Stowell and wife, Jackie of Leverett, MA; daughters, Julie Hunton and husband, Robert of Green Valley, AZ, Susan Crowley and husband, Jim of Ellington, FL; grandchildren, Connor Scheer, Katie Scheer, Peter Hunton and wife, Andrea, Bobby Hunton and wife, Sandy, Jessalynn Amaya and husband Santiago, Jake Stowell, Tom Crowley, Joey Barber and wife, Amber, Josh Barber and wife, Gabriella; and great grandchildren, William Hunton, Cameron Hunton, Marissa Hunton, Jacqueline Amaya, Amelia Barber, Joshua Barber; and several cousins.
