Obituary for Mary Cody

Mrs. Mary Ann Cody, 79, the oldest child of Johnnie Mae Wilson was born August 25, 1941 in Pell City, Alabama. She attended the public schools of Pell City. She moved to Chicago, IL at an early age. She worked in several professions. But, her passion was that of a Home Health Care Aide where she worked for many years.

Mary, professed her faith in Jesus Christ at an early age and the evidence of her faith could be heard the moment you spoke with her. She was a lifetime member of Zion Temple Missionary Baptist Church in Chicago, IL. She sang in the choir, faithfully served on the Usher Board and other various Ministries in the Church. She also served on the Mother Board at Rain or Shine Baptist Church in Chicago, Il. Her influence will forever remain in the lives of all who knew her. Anyone she came into contact with, she was sure to share the Word of God with them. Her testimony of faith and her dedication to Christ could be heard as she quoted her favorite scripture, Psalms 121:1-2, “I will lift up mine eyes, unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the LORD which made heaven and earth.”

Mary, transitioned from earth to glory on Thursday, October 15, 2020 in Brooklyn Center, MN. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Cody and ex-husband, Cleveland Kinney (children’s father); also by three brothers: LeRoy Roberson, Woodrow Kendricks and Lawayne Kendricks.

Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her children, three sons: Warren (Dorothy) Kinney of Greer, SC; Gregory (Takisha) Kinney of Brooklyn Center, MN; Marcel Kinney of Easley, SC; one daughter: Demetria (Patrick) Brittingham of Harrisburg, NC; two sisters: Elvira (Tim) Scruggs of Normal, IL; Frankie Kendricks-Pickens (son, Demetrius) of Chicago, IL, two brothers: Robert (Eloise) Kendricks of Gadsden, AL; Anthony Kendricks of Atlanta, GA. She also leaves to cherish: 14 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren; a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

A Homegoing Celebration will be held at 12:00 pm on Friday, October 23, 2020 at Wilkinson Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Minister Angela Anderson. Burial will follow at West Concord Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am-12:00 pm prior to the service.
