Obituary for Norvel Owens Johnson
Mr. Norvel Owens Johnson, 85, of Concord, passed away on Monday, April 26, 2021 at Tucker Hospice House, surrounded by his family.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 pm, on Friday, April 30, 2021 at Wilkinson Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Rev. Suzanne Dornsmith. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am-12:00 pm prior to the service.
Norvel was born in La Forge, MO to the late William and Glennie Johnson. He was also preceded in death by 10 siblings.
He worked for 41 years as a Tool and Die Machinist for Chevrolet Flint Manufacturing and was an enthusiastic baseball player/fan. Passionate about the St. Louis Cardinals and Detroit Tigers. He actually played softball until he was 71 years old. He served on multiple county government boards in both Michigan and Cabarrus County and also presided over the Swartz Creek Athletic Booster Club. Norvel was very active at his home church, Swartz Creek United Methodist in Michigan and enjoyed spending time at the Coltrane Life Senior Center in Concord.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Barbara Johnson of Concord; children, Ellen Young and husband Bryon of, New York, Liz Tanous and husband Steve of Georgia, Daniel Johnson and wife Tawnie of Ohio, Mary Teadt and husband Don of Michigan, Amy Gaines and husband Chad of North Carolina; grandchildren, LeEllen Despaw and husband Chris, Phillip Young and wife Stacy, Douglas Teadt and wife Lisa, Marcus Teadt, Matthew Tanous and wife Stella, Thomas Teadt and wife, Leann, Kevin Tanous and wife, Hayley, Bradley Johnson, Austin Johnson, Jenna Gaines, Monica Gaines, Trenton Gaines; 8 great-grandchildren.
