Obituary for Buddy Leatherman

Olin Lee “Buddy” Leatherman, Jr, age 82 of Concord, NC died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Friday, December 22, 2023.

The oldest son of the late Olin Lee “Doc” and Margaret McKinley Leatherman, Buddy was born on September 27, 1941, in Concord. He was married to the love of his life, Winslow Cannon Leatherman for 56 years. Buddy was a good and faithful servant who shared his many blessings with his close friends and family.

He graduated from Winecoff High School and Kings College in Charlotte. After serving his country in the US Army Reserves, Buddy worked with his father in the family textile business, Mt. Pleasant Hosiery Mill, for almost 30 years until his retirement.

Buddy is survived by his wife, his daughter, and his son; Winslow Cannon Leatherman, Norma Louise Leatherman Greene (David), Britt Leatherman (Kimberly) and his beloved grandchildren; Taylor, Bryce, Collier, Hayes and Cannon, and extended family grands. He is also survived by his brother and his wife, Jim and Pam Leatherman of Concord. Buddy was loved and admired by a host of nieces and nephews who will cherish his memory.

A true southern gentleman and passionate outdoorsman, Buddy will always be remembered as a genuine, caring, kind, devoted and selfless man. He was also a great and wonderfully loyal friend. His love for hunting, shooting and the outdoors is only surpassed by the undeniable love held in his heart for his family. A devoted husband and father, he passed down his love of the family farm, the beach and the outdoors to his family. His grandchildren were his pride and joy as he watched them grow. He traveled extensively on countless hunting adventures across the country and Canada with Britt and his dearest friends. He passed down this love of the outdoors to his grandchildren and he loved hearing of their hunting and fishing adventures. He was inducted into the North Carolina Trapshooters Hall of Fame in 2002.

A memorial service to celebrate Buddy’s life will be held at 1:00 pm Tuesday, December 26th at First Presbyterian Church of Concord, followed by the interment at St. James Cemetery on Gold Hill Road in Concord. The family will receive friends at their home from 2:30-5:00 pm.
