Obituary for Randy McBride Morris
Mr. Randy McBride Morris, 71, of Concord, passed away on Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at Tucker Hospice House.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, April 14, 2023 at Wilkinson Funeral Home chapel, officiated by Dr. Steve Ayers, with burial to follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will greet friends from 12:30-2:00 prior to the service.
The family will be at the home of his mother, Phyllis M. Galyan.
Randy was born on June 11, 1951 in Concord to Phyllis Morris Galyan. He was raised by his late grandparents, Arthur M Morris and Ella N. Alexander Morris. He is also preceded in death by family members, Helen Morris and Gene Morris.
Randy graduated from Concord High School in 1969, ECU in 1973, and from UNCG in 1980 with a Master of Education degree. He was a counselor for New Wineskins from 1976-1984 and a Sunday School teacher at Mt. Pleasant UMC from 1974-1982. Randy also taught at McLeansville Middle School from 1973-1989, Myrtle Grove Middle from 1989-present, and New Hanover County Schools from 1989-2003. Randy was 1980-1981 Teacher of the Year and received this award again in 1981-1982. In 1996 he was elected to Whose Who Among Americas Teachers and was a member of NCAE and NEA. Randy was on the committee for the very first Christmas Parade in McLeansville. He was also a facility advisor for the following: Pep Band, Honor Club, Science Club, Pep Club, School Newspaper, School Yearbook, Surf Club. Randy was also assistant basketball coach for McLeansville Trojans and a sponsor for science Olympiad for MATHCOUNTS Algebra I competition team.
He is survived by his mother, Phyllis Morris Galyan; sisters, Martha Ayscue and husband, Jeff, Joann Overcash and husband, Steve; a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
