Obituary for Bob Tolen
Robert “Bob” Curtis Tolen, Sr., 82, went to be with the Lord on Friday, April 30, 2021. Bob was born in Thomasville, NC on June 2, 1938 to Robert and Alistine Conrad Tolen.
He is survived by his wife, Pamilla Susan Tolen, daughters, Dorlene Tolen Wilson of Asheboro, NC, Delynda Tolen Mehlhop (Andrew) of Spring, TX, son, Robert “Bobby” Tolen, Jr. (Kelly Mount) of Flemington, NJ, stepdaughter, Kim Brouillette (Chris Matheny) of Concord, NC, stepson, Jason Huddle (Kristy) of Concord, NC, Sister, Mary Ellen Gargus of Spring, TX, son-in-law, Richard Young, Sr. of Randleman, NC, 13 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Doris Jean Tolen, parents, Robert and Alistine Tolen, daughter, Deanne Tolen Young, brother, Billy Joe Tolen, son-in-law, Jeff Wilson, mother-in-law, Ida Louise Price and granddaughter, Kelsey Rose Brouillette.
Prior to moving to Concord, NC in 2001, Bob was a long-time resident of Asheboro, NC. He retired from the United States Postal Service and served in the United State Air Force as military police and sharpshooter.
Bob was an avid rock collector and amateur geologist. He and Doris were members of the Greensboro Gem and Mineral Club. Bob and Pam were world travelers. Some of their favorite places to visit were Hawaii, Israel, Egypt, Greece, Panama Canal and Mexico. Bob loved to cook for anyone who came to visit, enjoyed woodworking and would try to fix anything. He was a Jack of all trades, a master of none. Bob wasn't shy and he never met a stranger. He loved spelunking in his younger years and loved to “cut a rug” dancing his entire life.
The family will receive visitors Monday, May 3, 2021 at 11:00 am followed by a celebration of life at 12:00 pm at New Hope Worship Center, 452 Brookwood, NE, Concord, NC 28025, officiated by Pastor Dale Jenkins. A private family burial will be held at a later date at Rocky River Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
