Obituary for Sandra "Sandy" Cox
Mrs. Sandra “Sandy” Jean Herold Cox, age 73, of Concord passed away on Monday, February 21, 2023, at Atrium Health Cabarrus Hospital.
The family will receive friends & family from 1:00 to 3:15 pm Saturday, February 25, at Poplar Tent Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall. A Service of Celebration will be held in the church at 3:30 pm with Pastor Nathan Sandford officiating.
Sandy was born on November 21, 1949, in Louisville, Kentucky, who was a daughter of the late Kenneth Lee Herold and Mildred Welp Herold. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Colin “Corky” Ray Cox.
Sandy attended Assumption High School in Louisville, KY, and graduated college from UNC-Charlotte. She was an active member of Poplar Tent Presbyterian Church, where she helped found the Helping Hands Ministry that focused on healing others through knitting & crocheting prayer shawls. She was a loving teacher who taught at Northwest Cabarrus Middle School and was a Cub Scout Leader and longtime supporter of Boy Scout Troop 38.
Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Nathan Buel Cox and wife, Yvette Cox, and Jon Kelley Cox and wife, Jamie Cox, along with her brothers, Charles F. Herold and David L. Herold, and her grandchildren, Hannah R. Cox, Reagan J. Cox, Oliver I. Cox, and Miller R. Cox, plus many cousins, nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will also be held in Louisville, KY, at a later date to be determined.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Helping Hands Ministry or BSA Troop 38, both to be mailed to Poplar Tent Presbyterian Church located at 6841 Poplar Tent Rd, Concord, NC, 28027.
