Obituary for Valentino Robert Christopher DeMarco

CONCORD- Valentino Robert Christopher DeMarco, 82, passed away on Monday, December 28, 2020. Born January 30, 1938 in Lexington, Ky, and the son of the late John Frank and Anona Elizabeth French DeMarco.

Val grew up in Lexington, Ky and graduated from Henry Clay High School. He served in the US Army. He attended the University of Ky and University of Phoenix obtaining a Mechanical Engineering degree as well as MBA. He retired from IBM and then started his own business, Concord Tile & Marble Co. in Concord NC.

He is preceded in death by his parents, son Stephen Jerome DeMarco, and brother Michael Anthony DeMarco.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Bettylou Gaines DeMarco; son Jeffrey Lynn DeMarco and wife Karen June; daughter Anona Elizabeth Gillis and husband Eric; two grandchildren Jessica Anona Gillis and Hunter Gillis.

He was member of Knights of Columbus, Concord Elks, Concord Lions Club, Concord Moose Lodge, DAV, and NRA. Val was a very talented watercolor artist, a craftsman in tile and marble, played the guitar and piano, and had a beautiful singing voice. He was a loving husband, a great father and grandfather, as well as good friend to many people. He never knew a stranger and loved to talk. He always told everyone that living with him was like a circus for you never knew what the next act was.

Due to COVID-19 no immediate services were delayed until now. A memorial mass will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, July 31, 2021 at St James “The Greater” Catholic Church(139 Manor Ave. SW Concord), a reception will follow at Geiger Hall.

He was interred at St. James the Greater Catholic Church Cemetery in Concord, NC.
