Born Oct. 4, 1933 to the late Hiller Barringer and Callie Winecoff Barringer of Kannapolis, she was one of eight children. She was preceded in death by her husband Ray Beaver Safrit; six siblings, Charles, Betty, Richard, Ruby, David and Hilda: son, Stephen; and granddaughter, Casey.

She graduated rom A. L. Brown in Kannapolis, where she played the violin in the orchestra. Her love of music lead her to direct 2 different youth choirs and sing at numerous weddings. Phyllis worked for A&P and Harris Teeter in Concord. She was awarded a long term service award at Harris Teeter.

She was a godly woman who helped establish four new starter churches. She loved to listen to the Mormon Tabernacle Choir every Sunday, as well as classical music and hymns. She read her Bible daily and always provided a meal to folks when they had a death in the family.

As a farmer's wife she spent many summer nights picking, prepping, canning and freezing the garden vegetables. She was right there helping out on the farm until an injury limited her mobility. In her 80's she enjoyed sitting on the porch, where she watched the hummingbirds and birds in the yard at the feeders. She always had a goodie table in the kitchen for visitors of all ages to enjoy and made sure the kids always got a treat.

She loved traveling with her husband, family and friends and visited 49 states. She also liked to visit lifelong friends in other states and kept in touch with a hand written Christmas card every year. She enjoyed spending vacations with her family in the mountains.
She was a loving and wonderful wife, mom, grandma and great grandma. She never met a stranger and had many friends wherever she went. Most everyone she knew adopted her as their mom or grandma.

The family would like to thank all the staff at Community Home Care and Hospice and her caregivers, Karma, Stephanie, Amanda, Madison, and Tina, for all their loving care.

Dear sweet loving Phyllis. You are now with your heavenly father and that sweet man of yours Ray. I have lived you both since I first met you 15 years ago at High Rock Church. Will always remember your beautiful smile, sweet voice and great hugs. So much fun just listening to you and Ray telling us stories of things in the past. The biggest one of Ray driving off leaving you standing on the sidewalk, oh we laughed so much that I cried. Never in a million years would I think Ray would do that. Makes me smile and laugh now. You were very loved by all and a wonderful lady. I will never forget you and the time I got to spend with you.
I will see you someday soon in Heaven.
Love you and Ray.

I met you years before I met your daughter Annette. There was something very special about you. Your smile and kindness was overwhelming and so incredibly warm. I am honored to have met you and Annette so many years ago. May you ready in peace with your dear husband.
